December 14, 1992 - Monday
Well, it's the middle of Monday already and I've been doing a bit of studying for my final exams this week. I finished rereading the first two hundred and twenty pages of my German book on Friday and Saturday. I have it down pretty good. I've also did some work on Calculus yesterday as well.
I called home at around six to catch up on everything. I found out that it saves a lot of time if you make a list of important stuff before you call. It also helps you to make sure that you don't forget anything as well. They received some more financial aid papers that we have to fill out. I told them all about my week, and especially the part with Melissa. When mother had to check their dinner, I got to talk to Cathleen for a few minutes. I asked her if she liked the picture of her at Clearwater Beach that I mailed in my letter last Wednesday. She did. Mother also told me that I received a big Christmas present in the mail from Tracey! She said that it is wrapped in Christmas paper on the outside, and obviously had to go through customs. She was surprised that it made it in as good a condition as it did. She also said that it was too big to fit in the mailbox, so the mailman actually had to bring it to the door.
Jon, Chris and I were watching a movie called K2 on the school channel last night when I got a pretty unsuspected phone call. At first I figured that it might be Melissa. She was quiet when we said hello, and it didn't click for a second that it was Kim!!! She was writing letters and didn't know quite what to say to me, so she decided to call. It was somewhere around 9:45 when she called, and she later said that she set a time limit, and was only going to talk until 10:20. I was happy to be worth that much.
We caught up on everything that each other has been doing since we last talked. I think that was at Denny's way back on October 16th. I was going to call her back on Sunday to say goodbye but I got a bit sidetracked by Abby. When I told her that I had been back since then, she said fine, she was going to hang up now since I didn't call her then. I begged her not to. She then said that actually she was calling from right next door to surprise me, but forget it now! Smart ass! We laughed and then I told her that I didn't stay home long at Thanksgiving and didn't want to bother her on a family day! Right. I just didn't want to seem too 'eager'! I asked her to forgive me and she said OK. I asked her about her little boyfriend at USF. She said that she only went out with him twice before he sort of gave her the brush off. She said that they ended up going out once more but nothing came out of it at all. Her ex from St. Louis also has moved back to St. Petersburg. She said that he called and begged her to go back out with him but she said definitely not. There's a little bartender that she likes but he has a girlfriend. Darn. When she asked me what else is up lately, I told her that I had a birthday. When she suddenly remembered she did seem a bit sorry that she had forgotten. That was good. I told her all that I did, and about getting my little six-pack of Moosehead. She has a new job now working at a heat treatment plant. They heat treat parts for all kinds of stuff including missiles. She mainly works as a receptionist and secretary and says that she really like it because it's easy. She only makes five dollars an hour but they let her work forty hours a week. She wants to stay there at least until her car gets paid off. We were talking about the last time we talked to each other, and I said that it was pretty close to when she got fired from Busch Gardens. She quickly corrected me that she got laid off, not fired. When I told Jon later that I haven't talked to her since back around when she got fired, he laughed and said it's more like she got laid off, isn't it? I thought it was funny that they both corrected me like that.
I did mention that I still have four passes, and she said that she still has one. She said that we'll have to go over Christmas break and I heartily agreed. When it was nearing out time up, I said that I'd call her when I get home, I guess after Christmas because she said that she'd be driving down to Ft. Lauderdale this coming up weekend. She said not to wait that long and also wished me good luck on my exams. She had one last story to tell me, so I told her to write it! She said that it wouldn't be long, but I told her that it's just the point of receiving a letter that counts. So hopefully I'll get that soon. It was a really good conversation. I'm estatic that she called!!!
I woke up early this morning and went to the University Copy Center to pick up a copy of the sample Physics Lab exam. It has the answers already, and since the exam is open everything, I figured that it might be useful. My exam was in Turlington at ten. It's a very open building with many entrances and many good outdoory places just to hang out and study. I went and found one near the room and started to read the sample exam. It couldn't have been more than three minutes later when suddenly Kim walks up. I was immensely glad that I had picked the right entrance to sit in. We talked for a few minutes and I told her to sit down. She said that its two cold and dragged me into the Marston library across the walkway. I complained that it's too cramped and too quiet, so that we wouldn't be able to talk. She said not to worry about it, that we'd be able to. And we did, for fifty minutes. I did finally ask her who she lives with, and she said her boyfriend. Uhhhggg! Oh well. That means she counts as a good friend.
We walked over to the exam at ten and it ended up being very easy. It was written to be much easier than the sample exam which was good. I had plenty of time to read the stuff I brought with me to double check my answers. Kim and I finished at about the same time. She had to walk to her car out by the O'Connell Center to get her Physics books because her real exam is tonight. I walked with her and we talked because I didn't have anything else to do for the day. She has a pretty nice newer emerald Mitsubishi Eclipse. When we did finally get back towards GPA, I was telling her how I'm going to miss my classes this semester because of the little friends I have made, including her. We then wished each other a Merry Christmas, and she told me to make sure that I call her when the new semester starts.
