Wow! I can't ever remember a time when life has been so good to me for so long. What's it been now, three weeks? It's been amazing. I kept up the good spirit by being very open and spontaneous with Melissa today. I think all my good luck has a lot to do with my attitude lately. If you're just willing to go a bit out of your way for something (or someone), it can work wonders for you.
I went to Physics discussion this morning for third period. I found out that I missed a quiz last Thursday. I asked him when the next quiz is, and he was a bit reluctant to tell me because I always leave as soon as he does. And I did. I walked over to the courtyard in front of Little Hall where my German class is. I saw this guy named Steve sitting at one of the picnic tables and went and sat down with him. He's the guy that the girls don't like because he's immature and stupid. He was filling out his class request form for next semester so I helped him out for a little while and checked out all of the girls walking around. That is one of the best places to just sit and meet girls, they're everywhere just studying or waiting for their next class to start. There's a little convenient store there where a lot of people come to have breakfast or grab a snack.
Steve and I started talking about Melissa. He says that she seems pretty cold towards him, but for a while they joked around a bit. I remember that, and I remembered how I had to steal her back, but I didn't say anything. I told him that we are becoming really good friends, and she is really open with me. Then I told him how she just broke up with her boyfriend over the weekend, and how now I'm interested. He asked me if I am moving in for the kill. Of course I am, don't be such an ignorant shithead. I looked up, and there she was walking by heading into the store. When she looked up and saw me, I stuck out my tongue and smiled. She pretended to be offended and quickened her step until she got to the door. I told Steve that I have something more important to tend to, and he laughed. I ran into the store and said hello. We caught up on the past day, and I asked her if she enjoyed her Carlsberg. She had. I told her that I was early and was over talking to Steve. She then told me how much she genuinely hates him. I was a bit taken back by her bluntness. I told her that we'd go upstairs so we wouldn't have to see him any more than possible.
We had a quiz at the beginning of class with words in this chapters dialogues. We studied for a while, and talked. There was a cute girl sitting outside near us who is taking french in the class next door. She was with some friends, but I kept flirting with her while we studied. I was very careful not to let Melissa notice. There was a student from Munich visiting our class today. He is on vacation and is traveling around in Florida for a couple of days. Elaine was having us ask him personal questions. Melissa and I were talking about how funny it must be to hear a bunch of students chanting about you in your mother language.
After class I remembered that she usually doesn't go back to her dorm on Thursdays. I told her that I had to go to CSE for a little while. Her class ended up being in Turlington which is right next door so we got to walk together the entire way. Last night, Chris, Jon, and I had a really deep discussion about superstitions and their religious backgrounds. Chris is very superstitious coming from a culture such as the Greek's. He thinks that Jon has the evil eye towards him. Every time Jon says something good about Chris, it will soon turn for the worse. It's funny, and from what I've seen, I can see why Chris would think it is true. I seem to have good luck off of Jon when I tell him what's up with me. We looked up some of the stuff we were talking about in the encyclopedia, which proved to be pretty interesting. I myself am very superstitious as well, a very strong believer in luck. But I think that it has a lot to do with psychology as well. If someone thinks that they've done something that will bring them bad luck, then they will see any little thing that happens as worse than it actually is.
Anyway, I was talking to Melissa about it since she is a religion major. She told me about an interesting course they offer here about alchemy which sounds pretty interesting. We were also talking about her trip to Israel last summer. I mentioned Chris's profound hate for Jews and explained that it is because he is half Arabic, half Greek. She agreed that combination would do it. We were talking about how English is a second language in many European countries, which would make it somewhat easy for an American to travel abroad. She was saying how English was spoken a majority of the time in Israel which didn't give her much of an opportunity to speak Hebrew.
As we neared Turlington, I told her that we should go to breakfast tomorrow morning. She has a class though for third and fourth that was cancelled last week so we opted for lunch at 11:30. I went and sat down in the computer lab and made sure that all of my course requests were bubbled in correctly on the form. I then went to Criser Hall and had it run through the scanners, and it worked on the first try. Chris had a bunch of conflicts on his schedule and had to do it over and over. I had asked Melissa earlier about which British Literature class she preferred, and it was 1750 through the present, so that's the one I chose.
Later in the day I got a phone call from Melissa. Chris answered it and he always is a smartass when I get a call. he was asking all kinds of shit like, 'May I ask who's calling please?' It was funny, though. She told me that she had some bad news, and that i'd better sit down. Her ex-boyfriend flashed into my mind for an instance but i waved it off. She then told me that she won't be able to make it for lunch tomorrow. The Classics Department asked her to give a fifteen minute speech to a bunch of the department's benefactors on how much she has enjoyed studying with them. It's just so the department can continue to receive money from them. She's then going to go on a two hour tour with them around campus. She then asked me if I had a backup plan. I suggested dinner, and so it is. I half-jokingly suggested Steak&Ale or The Outback but she thought it was a bit too expensive. There's a place she knows near here that we're going to walk to.
Last Friday we went to breakfast. This Friday we were going to lunch. I was going to use the excuse next Friday that we have to go to dinner because we've been moving up a step each week. That way I hoped to have her in bed in two weeks. But she stepped in and hurried up the progress. Good. Jon and I were talking about that and thought it was funny.
Anyway, Melissa and I kept talking on the phone for a while. She is pretty nervous about having to talk for fifteen minutes, an eternity. I wished her good luck and told her to make sure and be loud. Chris was sort of making comment the entire time I was on the phone, and I relayed some of them to her. She told us that we should go to the Hearne Museum because they have a bunch of ancient Greek art on display. She also asked me if I had ever been to the Museum of Natural History which is right up the street from Beaty. Chris and I were just talking about going early since we've never been. It just might be interesting.
I'm really glad that Melissa and I have become as close as we are. I'd really like to hear what she's told her close female friends about me.
