November 18, 1992 - Wednesday - Melissa again!, Tama

November 18, 1992 - Wednesday
It's amazing how you can think that you're upset with someone, but as soon as you see them again, you instantly fall back under her spell. I was right about there being nothing for me to worry about with Melissa. She just already had stuff she was going to do. I should be thankful that she squeezed me in to her weekend at all. When she asked me how my weekend was in class on Monday I told her that it was pretty bad. Her's sucked too, which made me feel better. Maybe she should have spent it with me. Ha ha. Fran‡oise came back over and sat by me again as well. I really want to do something that will cheer Melissa up immensely. But I can't think of anything. I can think of something that I could do to Melissa that would cheer me up, though.

I went to Computer Monday with Tama because we had an assignment due that night. She went to South Carolina to visit a friend of hers for the weekend. I told her about my crappy weekend. She told me that if she was here, she would have gone out with me. The teacher has threatened to start making attendance part of the grading if we keep missing classes. While we were sitting there, bored out of our minds, she picked up my keychain and was looking at it. She told me that I sure have a lot of fuck tabs. I asked her if she wanted one and we laughed. It's supposed to be good luck sexually if you can pull an aluminum can tab off of the rivet without breaking the ring. I have a whole keychain full of them. When you give one to someone it's supposed to me that you want to fuck them, hence the name 'fuck tabs.'

As we walked into Beaty, we saw a sign that said, 'You're condom or mine?' that was advertising some little talk session about STD's. I said mine, and she said something about hers. I then told her that if she wants to buy the condoms, that I have no objections whatsoever! She told me that she does keep a stash of her own.As we parted in the elevator afterwards, she told me to give her a call the next time I am bored. Interesting.

November 13, 1992 - Friday - Melissa, I messed up!?!

I guess it's about time that I write about my failures as well. I went with Melissa to Cafe Gardens over across University Avenue. I met her out in front of Library West at 5:30. She gave me a call earlier and left a message on the machine. I left for twenty minutes to pick up my car from Red D, and I knew that she would call while I was gone. I was home all day until then. When I walked in there was the little one on the answering machine. She was leaving to go to the library and wanted me to meet her there. She sounded really cute on the machine.

I'm not sure now if there is really anything for me to be upset about. It's just that we didn't seem to have too much to say to each other towards the end of dinner, and on the walk home. I have so much to say, but I went blank. I called her later and asked her if she found out what she is doing tonight. She already sounded like she was drinking, either that or she fell asleep when she got home. I told her that I was just going to ask her if she wanted to go see a movie. I then asked her what she is doing tomorrow night, and she told me that she has some things she needs to take care of. I'm trying so hard to get into her world, but I can't quite seem to fit. That's why I'm not really sure how to feel right now. It might just be that she already has plans, or something.

I'm pretty sure that it's not Richard. She said that he called this morning and she still doesn't quite know why. He was essentially said that they can still be friends down the road. She did mention though that a guy asked her to a movie last night. it was Jennifer 8, and it really sucked. We were talking about movies, though, which I think is the only reason she brought it up. I think I asked her a few too many questions about Richard towards the beginning of dinner. She was thinking about him.

For dinner she ordered some kind of grilled chicken on pita bread. I ordered a grilled hamburger on an English muffin with bacon and cheddar cheese. We also ordered a pound of French fries for the two of us. I thought that was funny. She was telling me all about this new movie that is out that is a documentary about this tremendously smart man's life, who now has a disease where his body is deteriorating, while his mind remains perfect. She has also read the book and thinks that I might find it interesting. Pity I don't remember the name.

One thing was the fact that she was still in jean shorts while I was dressed up a bit. I sort of teased her about it, which might of proven to be a mistake. FUCK!!! That's why I don't quite think I was ready to take her to dinner yet, which is why I asked her to lunch. Much more casual. I guess I should have had my Pepsi beforehand. I guess I lacked that caffeine pep to keep me attentive and interesting. Whatever. I'll find out Monday, if I can make it that far. Tonight, I seemed to have fallen into the same rut that happened with Kim. I need to hurry up and grab Melissa's attention again. I hope I'm reading too much into this... I hope, I hope, I hope!!!!!

Friday the 13th!!! My luck has fallen...

November 12, 1992 - Thursday - Melissa, Dinner date

Wow! I can't ever remember a time when life has been so good to me for so long. What's it been now, three weeks? It's been amazing. I kept up the good spirit by being very open and spontaneous with Melissa today. I think all my good luck has a lot to do with my attitude lately. If you're just willing to go a bit out of your way for something (or someone), it can work wonders for you.

I went to Physics discussion this morning for third period. I found out that I missed a quiz last Thursday. I asked him when the next quiz is, and he was a bit reluctant to tell me because I always leave as soon as he does. And I did. I walked over to the courtyard in front of Little Hall where my German class is. I saw this guy named Steve sitting at one of the picnic tables and went and sat down with him. He's the guy that the girls don't like because he's immature and stupid. He was filling out his class request form for next semester so I helped him out for a little while and checked out all of the girls walking around. That is one of the best places to just sit and meet girls, they're everywhere just studying or waiting for their next class to start. There's a little convenient store there where a lot of people come to have breakfast or grab a snack.

Steve and I started talking about Melissa. He says that she seems pretty cold towards him, but for a while they joked around a bit. I remember that, and I remembered how I had to steal her back, but I didn't say anything. I told him that we are becoming really good friends, and she is really open with me. Then I told him how she just broke up with her boyfriend over the weekend, and how now I'm interested. He asked me if I am moving in for the kill. Of course I am, don't be such an ignorant shithead. I looked up, and there she was walking by heading into the store. When she looked up and saw me, I stuck out my tongue and smiled. She pretended to be offended and quickened her step until she got to the door. I told Steve that I have something more important to tend to, and he laughed. I ran into the store and said hello. We caught up on the past day, and I asked her if she enjoyed her Carlsberg. She had. I told her that I was early and was over talking to Steve. She then told me how much she genuinely hates him. I was a bit taken back by her bluntness. I told her that we'd go upstairs so we wouldn't have to see him any more than possible.

We had a quiz at the beginning of class with words in this chapters dialogues. We studied for a while, and talked. There was a cute girl sitting outside near us who is taking french in the class next door. She was with some friends, but I kept flirting with her while we studied. I was very careful not to let Melissa notice. There was a student from Munich visiting our class today. He is on vacation and is traveling around in Florida for a couple of days. Elaine was having us ask him personal questions. Melissa and I were talking about how funny it must be to hear a bunch of students chanting about you in your mother language.

After class I remembered that she usually doesn't go back to her dorm on Thursdays. I told her that I had to go to CSE for a little while. Her class ended up being in Turlington which is right next door so we got to walk together the entire way. Last night, Chris, Jon, and I had a really deep discussion about superstitions and their religious backgrounds. Chris is very superstitious coming from a culture such as the Greek's. He thinks that Jon has the evil eye towards him. Every time Jon says something good about Chris, it will soon turn for the worse. It's funny, and from what I've seen, I can see why Chris would think it is true. I seem to have good luck off of Jon when I tell him what's up with me. We looked up some of the stuff we were talking about in the encyclopedia, which proved to be pretty interesting. I myself am very superstitious as well, a very strong believer in luck. But I think that it has a lot to do with psychology as well. If someone thinks that they've done something that will bring them bad luck, then they will see any little thing that happens as worse than it actually is.

Anyway, I was talking to Melissa about it since she is a religion major. She told me about an interesting course they offer here about alchemy which sounds pretty interesting. We were also talking about her trip to Israel last summer. I mentioned Chris's profound hate for Jews and explained that it is because he is half Arabic, half Greek. She agreed that combination would do it. We were talking about how English is a second language in many European countries, which would make it somewhat easy for an American to travel abroad. She was saying how English was spoken a majority of the time in Israel which didn't give her much of an opportunity to speak Hebrew.

As we neared Turlington, I told her that we should go to breakfast tomorrow morning. She has a class though for third and fourth that was cancelled last week so we opted for lunch at 11:30. I went and sat down in the computer lab and made sure that all of my course requests were bubbled in correctly on the form. I then went to Criser Hall and had it run through the scanners, and it worked on the first try. Chris had a bunch of conflicts on his schedule and had to do it over and over. I had asked Melissa earlier about which British Literature class she preferred, and it was 1750 through the present, so that's the one I chose.

Later in the day I got a phone call from Melissa. Chris answered it and he always is a smartass when I get a call. he was asking all kinds of shit like, 'May I ask who's calling please?' It was funny, though. She told me that she had some bad news, and that i'd better sit down. Her ex-boyfriend flashed into my mind for an instance but i waved it off. She then told me that she won't be able to make it for lunch tomorrow. The Classics Department asked her to give a fifteen minute speech to a bunch of the department's benefactors on how much she has enjoyed studying with them. It's just so the department can continue to receive money from them. She's then going to go on a two hour tour with them around campus. She then asked me if I had a backup plan. I suggested dinner, and so it is. I half-jokingly suggested Steak&Ale or The Outback but she thought it was a bit too expensive. There's a place she knows near here that we're going to walk to.

Last Friday we went to breakfast. This Friday we were going to lunch. I was going to use the excuse next Friday that we have to go to dinner because we've been moving up a step each week. That way I hoped to have her in bed in two weeks. But she stepped in and hurried up the progress. Good. Jon and I were talking about that and thought it was funny.

Anyway, Melissa and I kept talking on the phone for a while. She is pretty nervous about having to talk for fifteen minutes, an eternity. I wished her good luck and told her to make sure and be loud. Chris was sort of making comment the entire time I was on the phone, and I relayed some of them to her. She told us that we should go to the Hearne Museum because they have a bunch of ancient Greek art on display. She also asked me if I had ever been to the Museum of Natural History which is right up the street from Beaty. Chris and I were just talking about going early since we've never been. It just might be interesting.

I'm really glad that Melissa and I have become as close as we are. I'd really like to hear what she's told her close female friends about me.

November 10, 1992 - Tuesday - Melissa, Present

I woke up late this morning at eight thirty, just as my Physics lab was starting. I only woke up because Chris shut the door pretty loud as he was leaving, he then told me that he thought I was sleeping in. I hurried and got ready and made it in time to at least get a half decent report finished. It's a hell of a lot better than just taking a zero. I got tired of that shit though, and left early enough to make it to German with time to spare. I walked into class and Karen and Fran‡oise were the only two people there. I walked out to the bathroom to comb my hair, and when I got back, my baby was there! I asked her how she was, and she said that she is getting better. She then admitted that last night, she and a girlfriend went out and got drunk on Beck's beer. She only drinks imported. I had figured that she would and told her so. Fran‡oise has been sick lately, she caught mono from her boyfriend. When nobody inquired if she was better she said, 'Hey guys, you know, I'm feeling much better today.' I thought it was funny and jokingly asked her if she was glad that we asked.

It was really cold in the room today. It was actually warmer outside even though a cold front has recently passed through and it is windy. Fran‡oise moved from the back where the vent is to try and warm up. I noticed that Melissa was shivering and thought how much I'd like to pull her close and comfort her. I told her to come outside with me so that we could warm up a bit. Cindy was just walking up and I told her that she was going to freeze in class. She is always cold and always complains about me wearing shorts when it is cool. Melissa and I then walked downstairs to the snack shop where she bought coffee and I bought a Coke. I was going to buy a doughnut but they didn't look too appealing. I hadn't had any breakfast this morning since I woke late. I at least needed some caffeine. We walked back upstairs and it felt good walking in with Melissa, sort of showing off.

Last night we were supposed to learn the past tense forms of the verbs, which I spent a long time doing. I then made a sentence before class telling Melissa that she drank a lot of Beck's beer yesterday. Gestern hast du viel Beck's Bier getrunken. She thought it was funny. I realized the mistake of buying a cold drink to have while in a cold classroom. But I don't really like coffee so there wasn't much I could do. I told her to let me see her hand, and held it with my cold one for a few seconds. I kept making cute yet funny jokes to help cheer her up.

Since I came straight from lab, I rode my bicycle to class today. I didn't even consider taking it home with me as compared to walking with Melissa. I figured that I'd pick it up on my way to Calculus later. Towards the end of class Elaine mentioned something about everybody being sick. I think it was because only sixteen people showed up today. I said that I'm not sick. Melissa then said that she is sick, with a broken heart. I told her that pretty soon she'll follow the typical path when someone breaks up after a long time, and won't want to even see a member of the opposite sex. She quickly corrected me and said that now she's going to date every member of the opposite sex. I perked up and said 'Hi!' and she loved it! I then introduced myself as Dan, and told her that I hope I'm around as soon as she starts. She seemed quite cheered up while I said that. It was great. At least now she really knows that I'm interested and it will give her something to think about.

As we were leaving I told her that later on I'll stop buy and give her a present. She smiled and asked me what. I told her that I'd call her later if it is still in the refrigerator. As we were walking apart she rubbed her stomach, and still smiling, asked me if it is food. Actually I want to give her our last Carlsberg Beer. I had mentioned earlier that it was the kind I drank over the weekend and she said that she really likes that kind. We were talking about how it tastes better as it warms up and everything. I'm going to wrap it up and go over and give it to her later today.

Well, everything is going beautifully with Melissa. She is truly the girl that I like the most right now, and I've admitted that to the guys...

I think maybe I'm catching that star.....

I called Melissa at three thirty but got her answering machine. Christa then came over at about four to see Ed. We talked for a few minutes until he showed up from class. She came in as a freshman last year planning on either majoring in engineering or medicine (sounds like me!) but has since changed her major many times. I was just waiting around until Melissa called me. When she did, Chris was home and answered it. He was being all cutesy to her. I talked to her for a few minutes and then asked her if she was free for a little bit so I could give her the present. I had wrapped up the bottle of Carlsberg Beer in bubble wrap and then a paper bag. She wanted to know whether I was coming over, or should she come over to my room. It is really messy in my room and I didn't want Ed or Chris seeing me give her the last beer so I decided to walk over. I told her that I really want her to come over sometime though. When Chris heard me tell her that I'd go over there, he yelled at me to bring her over. She thought it was funny when I told her later.

She sounded glad again when I said that I was giving her a present, and she hadn't heard me say what I was giving her, just that it was in my refrigerator. So I walked over to her dorm, and she was waiting for me outside on the picnic table again. I sat down with her and handed her the bag. She still couldn't tell that it was a bottle until she could see it through the bubble wrap. When she saw it she thought it was really funny and was glad that I was giving it to her. I told her that I think she needs it more than I do. We joked about how good a friend I am, giving her a beer to ease her problems. I joked that I felt morally correct drinking Carlsberg beer because it's imported by Anheuser Busch, my favorite company.

We sat out there under the trees and talked for quite a while before she finally had to start heading over to Library East to work on her thesis before it got dark. We were talking about how good it is to just sit down and mope every once in a while. Every time I look at her when we aren't talking, she'll smile a really pretty smile. We had a really good and lengthy talk. I can actually tell stories to her. I'm usually a better listener than I am a long talker. I think I'm falling for her.

I was in Jon's room a little while ago when I realized how close it is getting until the end of the semester, until Melissa is gone. I have to keep things going, but I still must let her recover enough so that she won't later regret her actions as acts of desperation. I just wish I had more time with her because things are going so well for me now...

Christa came over just a little while ago and brought a close friend of hers, Rachel. They were going dancing with Ed but stuck around and we all talked and watched TV for a while. Rachel was average looking, and I only heard her say a few short words to begin with. When she started talking, I heard the accent!!! I asked her where she is from and she said Scotland. I was intrigued. I'm infatuated over anything British, or European for that matter, including the girls. Then she mentioned her boyfriend. I walked in to Jon's room and said, 'Fuck!' and he laughed. He agreed and gave me five. Christa keeps bringing the cute girls along, but they always have boyfriends. But what are boyfriends? Abby's didn't matter... And Melissa's of four and a half years might not have posed a problem either... We'll see. I'll try!

November 9, 1992 - Monday - Melissa breaks up!

What a stroke of marvelous luck!

LIFE IS FUCKING BEAUTIFUL!!!!! The most awesome thing that could have happened this weekend did! Melissa broke up with her boyfriend!!!!!!!!!!!!! (13 for luck!) AHHHHHHHHHH!!! After she told me, I couldn't wait until I was back at my dorm so I could scream and shout for joy!!! Melissa had been dating richard for four and a half years, so I realize that there is a very real chance that they will get back together, but she told me that this was coming for some time now. YES!!! She was trying her hardest to play off her grief but I know very that she feels like shit.

I tried to help comfort her as well as possible. I walked her home after class. I told her about visiting granny yesterday. She told me how sweet I was for visiting her thus we started talking about grandparents. I wanted to get her mind off Richard while showing her a sensitive side of me. She told me how she lives with her grandparents most of the time because her family is dysfunctional. She said that it is amazing that she came out even half way decent. She told me how her grandfather is the man that she looks up to and respects the most. I told her how I never knew any of my grand or great grandfathers very well.

As we neared yulee she actually walked the longer way with me instead of cutting across like she used to. I was happy. As we said goodbye I told her to please cheer up. She sort of bit her lip with really sad puppy eyes and turned her head from side to side that she couldn't. She reminded me so much of the girl in the movie Cocktail. I just wanted to garb her and hold her and make her feel better. Poor Melissa.

How do you talk to an angel? How do you hold her close to where you are? It's like trying to catch a falling star... The Heights

Sunday morning at about eleven, the telephone rang. We were all still asleep so I just let it ring. It was Granny! She left a message telling me that my parents and sisters were there and if I hurried I could come and see her and them and have dinner. I jumped up and got ready as fast as I could. I called her back and told her that I was coming. Mother was worried that I didn't know my way but I told them I I definitely remembered from all of those times going with them. I borrowed Chris' car to go and get mine from Red D, I hadn't even used my car the entire weekend.

Something tried to tell me to call my parents Saturday night but I didn't. I kept thinking to myself that I should be going to Granny's this weekend, and I did. It took me a bit longer than I had planned because of the traffic and the wind but I never had a question or doubt about any of the turns. When I arrived I gave Granny a big hug and said hello to everybody else. She is looking very well. Very healthy. She had cooked a big meal and she wouldn't let me rest until I had a full plate. I had beef, a bowl of peas, pork chops, sweet potato, and especially the corn bread. We then had ice cream for dessert. She told us everything that was going on up there and I got to do the same. I had to tell them all about my perfect Chemistry placement score, my first football game, the parties, and playing with Melissa. Mother and I then worked on filling out a financial aid form so I can try to get more money for next semester and beyond.

I asked Granny is she received my birthday card. She hadn't, but then they told me that she hadn't gotten father's either. It was because nobody has been to her post office box in a few days. Granny turned eighty on Thursday, the 5th. on the She was also telling me how when she first called my number, she dialed it wrong, so she had my father read them off to her the second time.

Later on, newly married Lovey and Bob came by. They got married just a few days ago on Lovey's birthday. Lovey told me that they did that so Bob would only have to buy her one present instead of two and we laughed. It seemed that all of the older relatives talked a lot more to me. It's probably because I'm talking back to them now. It was about four, and my family had to leave since tomorrow is a school day for Chrissy and Cathy. Mother told Granny not to let me stay too late, and told me to call when I got back home. Lovey was telling me how good of a cook Bob is, and how he makes the best steaks. I told that it's been a long time since I've had a really good steak, living on a college budget and not having the determination to cook it. She also was taking about how they went deep sea fishing on the same trip that I saw them at Busch Gardens.

Not too much longer after they left, Mary and Tammy came over. We all actually sat around and talked for a long time. I haven't had a real conversation with Tammy in years. It was amazing! Maybe I was embarrassed when I was in front of my family, or something. Tammy's pregnant and is getting married soon. they are already looking at a house near Mary and Archie's. Tammy said that she is going to finish high school though. She is actually getting cuter. Mary and Tammy both agreed that I've changed a lot recently and said that I remind them of Jerry. We all ended up talking about people farting in school and I made the joke about what it would sound like to my friends if I went back to Gainesville and told everybody that I visited my Grandmother, and we talked about people farting. Everyone laughed. Actually, I was being pretty witty and both Mary and Tammy were laughing at what I was saying. It was fun. Granny was telling us all about how she used to act up in school, and was being really funny herself. She remembered getting her car back in 1929 and was telling us all about it. It was really great. I'm so glad she's doing so well, and I'm glad she called me. I sort of yelled at my parents for not calling me and telling me that they were coming, but they didn't know until late last night.

After Mary and tammy left, Sue and Durell came over and we all talked for a little while. At about seven I figure it was time to o and said goodbye to everyone. I'm going to have to hurry and go visit her more often while I still have my car up here. She sent me off with a box of hash browns, two bananas, and a jar of gherkins. I made sure that I finished off all of the cornbread before I left. She told me to be extra careful because my parents would blame her if I didn't make it home safely. I told her that they wouldn't do such a thing, but I would be careful. Durell agreed that you should always take a few more minutes because it might safe your life.

When I got home, I called Granny and told her that I was OK. I then called home and did the same.

Today I called home again to tell mother the rest of the information about my income from Busch Gardens over the summer. I also got to tell her the HAPPY NEWS!!! about Melissa breaking up. I wonder what she thought about it. I'm sure she thinks it's funny how I am seeming to get what I'm dreaming of when it comes to Melissa.

This time I will do more than only hope...

November 8, 1992 - Sunday - Parties, Gator football

It's really early Sunday morning and I'm feeling pretty good right now. I had everybody drop me off back here at Beaty at one because I didn't feel like going dancing at Florida theater. Besides, I probably wouldn't have gotten in anyway. Jon and Karen were already here and were getting ready to eat. We joked around for a few minutes while we all ate and then I came in to my room to go to sleep and to leave them alone. I still pretty awake from my one beer. It was a Danish import, Carlsberg, and it ended up being better than plain beer. It had a somewhat stronger bitter taste to it. It actually started tasting better as it warmed up. Germans and probably other Europeans drink their beer warm which would make sense for it to taste better that way. Now I get to brag to Melissa that I drank imported beer, which is her big thing.

On Friday, Jon and I met up with Chris and his friend Jen and went to see Ed playing in the symphony orchestra. Jon and I were supposed to wait for Christa, Ed's new fling, and her roommate, but they were late and we decided not to wait for them. Ed's mom and dad drove up for the weekend to see the performance and to go to the Florida versus Souther Mississippi football game. Jen ended up being pretty cute so I sat on the side of her opposite Chris. They have known each other since seventh grade. She is completely self centered, though, and will continuously interrupt you to tell her stories. But otherwise she was nice. She has long straight hair, almost to her ass and knows how to stick out her breasts to try and impress the guys. She told us how most of her friends are guys, and how she often feels like Dr. Ruth answering all of their sex questions. She also said that she's not a nympho or anything. After the night was over I believed her. She doesn't do anything but flirt!

Valerie (the bitch), Noelle (the twelve year old), Kendra (the whore), Heidi and Jane also were all in the orchestra. It was a very good performance. Jon and I were picturing Elmer Fudd chasing Bugs Bunny to the music and were having fun. During the intermission Jon and I went and found Ed's parents to say hello. they said that Christa and her roommate, Jen, were sitting with them. Mrs. Sandford thanked us for coming to see Ed. They were both telling us how pretty, smart, and bubbly Jen seemed. We admitted that finding out what she looks like was the reason why we came back where they were sitting. Christa then came down and told us that Jen was calling her boyfriend. Shit! I then saw this pretty good looking chick in a black bustier that was showing off her awesome tits! Christa then told us that she was her roommate and introduced us. We only wished that she was single. Ed later told me that Christa noticed that we were drooling over Jen before we even knew who she was. That was funny.

Afterwards, we all congratulated Ed, and then Chris, Jen, and I headed out to the Red D parking lot to get his car. We then headed a party at this guy Charley's house. He was with us at the parties after Homecoming. We met the people and then started drinking beer. I only had one and a half. I still haven't acquired too great of a liking to it yet. Saleem and Monte were there with their friend Reno. just like we figured, there were all guys but that soon changed. Jen found some hippy looking guy named Jay and took off outside with him and ended up talking forever. They were probably smoking if not anything else.

Ed, Christa, Jon, and Cecil all showed up, which really surprised me. I figured that after Chris and I left them, they'd never have the motivation to come. Later on two pretty cute girls came, Laurie and Amy. I wanted Amy, but she was completely teasing all of the guys. Reno, Chris and I were encouraging Mike, who was really drunk, to screw her, but he didn't want to go after her. I even went to the point of pushing him into a dark bedroom with her and holding the door shut, but nothing. We were showing him that she was drunk, especially as I was rubbing my hand all over her ass and she didn't much know the difference. We started getting bummed out by about two thirty so I drove us back to Beaty after dropping Jen off.

Chris and I slept pretty late. When we finally got up, I set up the computer so he could type in a report for one of his classes about the destruction of rain forests. He used some other paper for most of his stuff. I don't want to come right out and say that he copied to protect him later in life. I let him use two stanzas from my ecology poem that helped me to win the English PRIDE award. Of course I made him give me a reference in his bibliographies. While he was typing, I was watching the Notre Dame versus Boston College football game. They were ranked 8th and 9th respectively. Notre Dame scored a touchdown. A few minutes later, another touchdown. And then another! It was already 21 to 0 and was still in the first quarter. It was an awesome game.

Ed was at the Gator game sitting with Rebecca in the Tri Delt section. It was drizzling and cold outside, thus some of the people didn't go to the game. Ed called us at the end of the first quarter and told us that he had three tickets in the Tri Delt block if we wanted to come. Chris and I agreed. ed told us to meet him at gate fifteen in fifteen minutes. Jon said that he never had seen me get ready so fast. We went from wearing our pajamas, to fully dressed in less than five minutes. We then jogged uphill as far as we could in the cold rain and then quick walked the rest of the way. Ed said that he was surprised because we actually made it on time. I saw Fran‡oise outside as we walked in and we said hi. Our seats were amidst all of the sororities and were very close to the field, right up in front of the cheerleaders. We had a grand time. Just looking and flirting with the girls made my day. As we walked between the rows of girls to get to our seats, we were eye level with some of the best looking tits on campus. It was great for my first Gator football game ever!!! We won 24 to 20.

After the game, Jon, Chris, and I went to McDonalds for some food. I ordered the special with two cheeseburgers, large fries, and medium Coke for $2.99. I special ordered the cheeseburgers with lettuce and without mustard so they would have to make them fresh. they accidentally made me three and went ahead and just gave me the extra one. I was happy, and actually got full. That made it well worth it. We checked out the girls the entire time before heading back.

Afterwards, Chris and I finished up his paper, and then were going to head back over to Charley's to party some more. By that time I didn't feel too much like going, but Chris told me that I wasn't going to just stick around here and chill. I am really glad he made me go because I had a lot of fun this time. It was only the guys and girls that usually hang out this time, instead of being an open party. I had my Carlsberg Beer on the way over. This time I talked to everybody and even had Laurie hanging all over me every once in a while. Chris later told me that his friends really liked me. That's cool. I had a really good time before I had them drop me off at one so that they all could go to the nightclubs. I didn't feel like sneaking in that night. Karen and Jon were eating when I walked in so I sat around and talked with them for a while before going to sleep. I did catch her looking at the stuff in Chris' wallet when I walked in, though. She said that she was just being nosy.

November 6, 1992 - Friday - Breakfast, Abby's letter

Life is wonderful!!! I wrote that on our message board by the telephone a few days ago. Jon erased the 'wonder' claiming that life is just full. I disagree. Strongly. And guess who has made my life into such heavenly bliss. Melissa Aubin...

She's wonderful, and she's gorgeous. I'm starting to get taste! Well, I've always had taste, I've just never known how to get what I've wanted. I would love to be back in high school with my attitude now. It would be a fucking blast! Well, there's never a better time to make your life into a fucking blast than today. And that's exactly what I'm trying to do!!! I'm in the happy-go-lucky mood where I just want to go out and get drunk tonight. Chris has a four-keg party that we're going to hit tonight. Well anyway, back to Ms. Wonderful. I asked her on a breakfast date for this morning on Tuesday. Her one class for today was cancelled which meant she had to get up and ready just for me. She looked good, too. I walked to the ATM this morning and withdrew ten bucks from my account so that I could pay for our breakfasts. I've learned a lot recently on setting priorities about what I spend my money on, and she definitely is worth it.

In class the other day, we were doing group work, and once again, we were partners. One of the questions that she had to ask me was, 'Will you give me money?' I answered positively, like assigned, but then laughed and told her no, I wouldn't. She laughed and said that, 'Now there's the Dan I know!' I was flustered because we've never been in a position that she could assume that from. Except for the morning when we practiced our dialogues at breakfast. I just saw that as a business meeting and besides, I didn't have the money to pay for her bagel. I later hoped that she wouldn't think that I asked her to breakfast just so that I could prove her wrong, which is definitely wrong. I guess I'm somewhat paranoid about such things. Anyway, we both ordered a fried egg with bacon and cheese on an biscuit, and drinks. I noticed that she had her money on her tray. Just as I had planned earlier, I walked quickly to make sure that I was ahead of her in line. I motioned to the cashier to ring up both of our meals, very suave.

I don't quite know how to put the next part. She seemed taken a bit off guard and then asked if I was paying for hers, with a somewhat hopeful yet appreciative tone. I told her that it was me who asked her to breakfast, thus I was paying. The older black lady cashier suddenly broke in and told Melissa not to complain, which she wasn't, that I was paying for her breakfast, and then she was telling me how sweet I was. It was funny and worked very well

We spent over an hour and fifteen minutes eating breakfast and just talking about everything. We had a really good talk about Skeeter's and why it's a place of evil yet still you will always end up back there again. It was funny. I walked home with her afterwards, and we passed by Jon on the way. He says she's short, but compared to me anybody's short. I had a really good time and have something to brag about now. If it weren't for that damn boyfriend of hers...

I received a letter in the mail from Abby yesterday that was quite interesting:

Dan, (you arrogant bastard!)
Today is Monday. the day after I suppose one could call it. In some ways I feel guilty about having sex with you. Not because I feel obligated to David or I think I should feel obligated to you. I think it's because I did it without asking you first how you would feel about it. I very much enjoyed sex with you because you are attractive to me, and you have a great personality. (Don't get an ego now!) I would again should the chance be available. But for the foreseeable future I'm going to stay with David. I can't have a relationship with someone all of the way in Gainesville. That's not in my self interest.
I don't think I would call myself promiscuous. Slightly Hedonistic maybe, but not really bad. I just feel that sex is like any other activity. Indulge if you enjoy it, but don't get addicted. I avoid that. I was addicted to food for a long time. Food can be every bit as bad for you as drugs are. I don't want you to think I'm getting tired of david or anything. I just think I can't limit myself to one person. I suppose if you lived here in Tampa and went to USF, I might leave david, but I don't really know for sure. I just don't know what I'd do. Probably go nuts. I do like you. Maybe I'm just confused and messed up in the head or neurotic. Whichever, I will miss you a lot while I'm here and you're there.
So that's it. This is my confession, dated this 19th day of october, 1992.

PS - You do realize why I insisted on the condom? Always remember that, no matter who you're with, you can get in to some seriously deep shit that even you can't BS your way out of. Don't mess around with sex. Be responsible. End of moralizing.
Truly, Abby

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A new month, a new president. So, what's going on in your life now? Sorry again that i missed you on your last visit. Call before you come back and we'll plan an afternoon, perhaps a movie?
David has been insanely jealous lately. Don't know why. I asked him a week ago if he wanted to go easy for a while and date other people. He got upset and said I was saying that because i went to the beach with you. Untrue. I was just curious what he would say. I don't want to date anyone else. (nothing against you.)
I'm sitting here listening to a guitar/rock version of War of the Worlds on the radio. I taped it years ago & then lost it. Kind of interesting. Bizarre at least. the Moody Blues did most of the music. Hmm.
Anyway, here are some pics of me. They're from Robinson's prom. I went with this guy Shawn Toso. He lived on base at Nacdill. I look kind of chunky in these pictures. I always photograph fat looking. If I get more recent pics, I'll send some.
Please do write me back. Besides you owe me a list of priors. You promised, remember.

Abby
