May 3, 1993 - Monday - Concert with Kimmeth

Well, I'm back home for the summer! I'm finally done! What I had hoped to be a dazzling reunion with Kimmeth, a summer of good times and passion, sort of died when she said that she is leaving soon. I still was looking forward to seeing her, but it didn't seem as important as it used to. I called her house Friday night, but she had just left for the night. She returned the call later on Saturday night and we talked for over an hour. Some friends of hers were visiting and she had spent the day at Busch Gardens. She says that the new Kumba roller coaster is awesome. I'm really excited about it, and have watched it on the VCR countless times. She said that she was sort of tired and really didn't want to go out with them again. Instead, she wanted to know if I wanted to do something. I declined!!! I too was tired, and it was a little too late to get ready and then go all of the way to her house. We opted instead to go to the beach Sunday morning.

That prompted immediate flashbacks of Abby. My mind got a little creative, putting Kimmeth in Abby's place. It kind of made me wonder about things... Unfortunately, the entire sky was grotesquely cloudy, so I decided that we wouldn't hit the beach. Maybe we should have. A romantic walk on the beach is a romantic walk, no matter what the sky looks like. She mentioned being really hungry, and asked if I'd like to go to breakfast. I declined again!!!, figuring I'd do something with my family since Chrissy and Cathy were out of school and father is on vacation this week. The people in town ended up calling while we were on the phone, and she was able to make a breakfast date after all. She said that she'd call back later that night.

I found out from her that she won't be leaving until two weeks from Wednesday. I was happy because that gave us a little more time. She also told me what really is causing her to move back to Ft. Lauderdale. She told me in all seriousness, not trying to hurt me in any way, that she really feels like she's in a rut in Tampa. There are better jobs and all of her friends waiting for her back in Ft. Lauderdale. She also told me about a friend of hers named Peggy whom used to be her best friend for a long time. Peggy has since gone through a lot of really depressing and horrible situations here in Tampa.

I found out that she and her parents were the ones that took Kim to Tennessee that time when Kim was fourteen. She said that they came back drunk on moonshine one night and started cutting down on Peggy asking her why she couldn't be more like Kim! Even though it turns out that this argument had occurred before, Kim was never there and she freaked out. She ran out which really pissed them off. Peggy caught up with her, and at some point they looked up at the sky. She said that suddenly all of her problems had been sucked away when she saw the pure beauty of the stars! It can be quite pretty up there. She said that Peggy's parents packed right up and took them home, saying that they had ruined the vacation. They didn't talk for the entire trip, and when they were at Kim's house, she was afraid to go because she knew that Peggy would be screamed at, but she was glad to be home. the two of them got out and said goodbye. She later found out that Peggy's parents called her rude and selfish for not thanking them for the trip when she left!

Anyway, she did call back at about midnight. She said that she had something sort of silly to ask of me. She was supposed to drive her brother and his two friends, a married couple, to an Indigo Girls concert in St. Petersburg, and wanted me to come so that she and I could do something while they were at the concert. She said that perhaps we could buy two tickets and see the concert. I agreed. She called me back a few minutes later and said that she worked until five today, and just to show up at her house at six. We also were talking more about rejection lately, and about how it seems to be happening a lot lately.

I left the house at five, thinking the traffic would make the trip take quite a while. I drove by Busch Gardens to take a look at the Kumba. It looks awesome! I then headed over to her house. I was still fifteen minutes early, and her car wasn't there. I saw a guy sitting on the porch, and I figured it to be her brother. I asked him if she was home yet while I walked into the yard, and he said no. He has blue eyes, a little pony tail, and about four earrings mostly on his left ear. I introduced myself as Dan, and so did he! Later, when Kim was calling him Danny, I realized that he is that only brother who is younger than her. the one she doesn't really respect. He told me that his two friends couldn't make it, and if I could come up with twenty bucks, I was welcome to come. I said sure, if Kim agrees.

I asked to sit down in the other chair, and then we talked a little until she showed up. She looked really tired and sweaty. She looked a lot like she used to in the pictures of her from a few years ago. She talked to Danny, telling him to drive down the road and fill her car with gas. She then looked at me, we smiled and said hi. she then said, `Nice haircut!' and walked into the house. I cut a lot of the top off with Jon's clippers the night before my sociology exam, including my forelock. I sat out front reading the paper while Kim took a shower. She later said that she cut her bangs, and then I realized why she looked like her pictures. I really wish she hadn't done that! She then said that she did tell me that I needed to cut my hair, but that I went a bit overboard. I explained that I needed to do it for Busch Gardens, anyway.

While I was sitting on the porch, her mother stuck her head out the door, and we said hello. She then thought for a second and asked if I was Dan. She was all happy with herself for remembering as she went back inside. It was funny. I locked up my car as she opened hers, and put Danny in the back seat. Good. I wasn't quite sure how our conversation would be with Danny in the back, but it went surprisingly well. She and I talked the entire way, and he stayed relatively quiet. If I would say something funny, she would put her hand on my knee, or hit me slightly if I would be a little rude about something. I brought along my map of St. Petersburg, and we ended up using it to find the Bayfront Center. After we parked, we went to a franchised Pizza Hut/Restaurant that was really nice. The interior architecture looked like something out of Miami, very cool and relaxing. The main dining area and the entertainment area were separated from the ordering bar. They even had a fifty cent pool table.

I had already eaten, but decided to get a milkshake. Kimmeth was the hungry one, and the three of us combined the last of all of our monies to pay for the food. It was funny, we were all broke, kind of. Towards the end, I pulled out my twenty that I owed Danny, and paid him. he was happy to be the one with the money now. Kim asked him to buy her another Coke and a brownie on credit. It was funny. There seemed to be a majority of girls going to this concert. We were looking at the ones coming in, and she kept trying to find me ones I'd like, but I'd always find a flaw. I mentioned majoring it microbiology, and then saying how I no longer like the idea of Germany and England as places to live. Because of their socialized medical systems, the doctors must work much harder to get paid more, with an obvious lack of patient-doctor communication. We said that I could just visit every once in a while.

Danny piped up and said that they'd love an American doctor there, to take me hostage. I laughingly said that I always wanted to visit Syria. One of the two got serious for a moment and asked me what I thought about the US sending troops to Bosnia, because of the war between Bosnia and Syria. I laughed to myself and corrected them that it's Bosnia and Sarajevom, or Serbia. I then said that I think it will just be a step by Clinton to raise his popularity, because he won't leave until the job is complete, unlike Bush in Iraq. We also talked about Somalia for a second. What a political disaster! It was weird having a political conversation with them, and we soon stopped.

Towards the end of our little `meal,' I pulled out a twenty, and paid Danny. He was now happy to be the only one with money. He joked that it was Kim's turn to pay up. She joked that she didn't want to pay because the only reason that he wanted her to go was because she was his only ride to St. Pete. I told him that he could have always taken that bicycle I saw him with and we laughed. SHe then asked him to go buy her another Coke and a brownie on credit, and he oblidged. We started talking about her hair. She said that she has started using a new shampooa nd it makes her hair really soft. She then had me rubbing my fingers through it as well.

It was funny how well Danny and I were getting along. We were joking around about the girls and were being a little perverted. We were running around looking for the bathrooms for the two of them and Danny said that he saw a girl walk into the men's bathroom. I said that I'd be right back and started heading towards the door. Danny and I laughed, but Kim pulled on my arm and said, 'Not funny.' She then took me off into this bar where there was a women's restroom in the back. It looked like a trendy dance club early in the evening because the people were just starting to get drunk, but the girls looked pretty hot. I went and sat at a table looking out over the bay and flirted with a couple of girls until Kim came back out. There was a small stage that we walked across. We stopped and joked that we had finally made it to center stage,a nd bowed. It was cute. When we headed back it was already dark, and we had trouble stepping on everybody as we scooted down the aisle back to our seats.

There was a rather annoying opening act, and we were looking more at the people around us than listening to her. there was a younger couple up two rows in front of us. She kept kissing every exposed part of his body, making out. Kimmeth was the first to get a sickening feeling about it having been so long, and I soon fell in as well. We were looking at each other rather intently, and I made a mean comment telling her that we could switch seats and maybe she'd get lucky on the other side. It used to be that I was really scared of trying anything because I didn't want to scare off such a beautiful friend, which has probably been a big mistake. Now I don't seem to care that much anymore since she's leaving. There's a sense of denial within me that just wants to grab a hold of her and keep her forever.

Between the first act, and the Indigo Girls, Kim was trying to get a little sleep. She leaned over and put her head on my shoulder. It was really cute and I wanted so badly to put my arm up around her. Fuck me!!! I guess I shouldn't be so hard on myself, for my sanity's sake. Later on we were joking around, and were still showing disgust over the couple in front of us. I rolled up the program and got up like I was going to start beating them apart. Kim really liked that. A big group of lesbians sat in the row in front of us and were rather annoying and unpleasant to look at. Towards the middle of the concert, they started standing up so I started yelling at them. I first told them to sit down,a nd then I yelled that they have seats for a reason. Kim laughed but they were convinced, and stayed down for most of the remainder of the concert. When they did finally stand again at the end, I found that sitting on the back of my seat was rather comfortable, and Kim came up and joined me.

Kim really likes the Indigo Girls and knows most of their songs. their lyrics are really good, they really make you think. I can get lost within myself when I listen to their music, completely relaxed. kim was singing, and doing so very beautifully, I might add. I kept encouraging her on. I really enjoyed having my own personal show. We left a few minutes early before the crowd did. Kim wanted to get home because she had work in the morning at 7:30. Danny took the back again. This time Kim and I just couldn't stop talking. We were sort of toying with the idea of me coming to Ft. lauderdale and living with her. She said that she could get me a job down there. I would love that more than anything!

I was also being wonderfully sweet! There were two outstanding situations where I made a comment that was very complimentary and she really seemed happy when I did so. She joked one time that we could go visit the guy that never called her back. She said that she'd really like to ask him why he never did. I then said that Danny and I would then thank him and then go have a beer! She joked that I would then slip him a fifty for ditching her and leaving her for me. I corrected her, saying I'd only leave a ten. As she started getting offended, I told her that I'd much rather spend the rest going out with her! I kept wondering what her brother was thinking as he listened from the back of the car.

After we got back to her house, Kim and I sat outside talking for a little while. One of her other brothers came up on a bicycle and knocked over an old water cooler off of the porch. Their mom came out to see what all of the fuss was. After he picked it up he ran inside and washed his hands and then came back out and shook mine. He's the one that she showed me a picture of way back. I told Danny that it was nice meeting him as he left, and Kim said, `Again!' I didn't realize until a few minutes later that she thought I had already met her brothers before, but this time was a first for both of them. When I left she said that she'd call me after work tomorrow.
